“Why demand to legalize MSP makes sense” has to be viewed from multiple angles, but with pragmatism. There are already many laws to protect farming which becomes valid only when adhered to and implemented by authorities effectively. For Example: There is a law to protect consumers from adulteration of farm produce, including Milk...But the same farmers, who are unable to derive quality are seen and caught adulterating Milk with all sort of stuff.....who seek immunity from legal action and the local politicians are their saviors!
One major reason that is failing the farmers is their borrowing from private money lenders, apart from Bank borrowing, at exorbitant cost and eventually getting in to the trap to sell the produce to any third person at a price way different from MSP, only to avoid harassment. This situation is driving farmers to take extreme step called "Farm Suicide" and the ban imposed by the previous JDS-Cong coalition government in Karnataka on private money lenders is only a paper tiger.
